Originally finding guitar lessons uninteresting when he was 8 years old, Daniel J. K. Hill started creating music digitally in 2010 after experimenting with music software outside of school. Daniel originally composed G-Funk and West Coast hip hop in his early musical years, but, as he began improving his skill and familiarity with music production, Daniel began creating a diverse variety of music styles with experimental, unconventional and fusion influences.
Hip Hop Years
Although he now focuses on music and sound for the media world, Daniel spent much of his early years creating music for the hip hop scene. Daniel originally carried the stage name “D-Funkdafied” for multiple years but decided to convert it to his real name after a decision to re-brand his music in late 2015 and to focus on the video game, film and Television industries. However, in many hip hop industry contexts, he still appreciates the name "D-Funkdafied" as an alias. His hip hop music often encompassed diverse elements from multiple sub-genres that include West Coast hip hop, alternative hip hop, hip hop soul, rap rock, electronic hip hop and orchestral hip hop. Daniel also produced music with the influence of acid jazz, funk, house and R&B and has worked with a several underground artists including the anticipated Chicano rappers, Malow Mac and Conejo. Among his hip hop influences are Scott Storch, DJ Quik, Dr Dre , Paul Hardcastle, Warren G and more. Daniel also grew up admiring the profound rap music of Ice Cube.
Most of Daniel’s work incorporates an experimental, elegant and thematic style with fusion-crossovers of multiple music elements and considers the outcome of music to be more sophisticated when freely experimenting and using diverse sounds in a composition. Daniel’s music is absorbed around setting a thematic mood, symphonic melodies, structural builds, epic motifs and explosive percussion. His influences extend from a variety of talented composers such as Jesper Kyd, Jeremy Soule, Adrian von Ziegler, Lorne Balfe and many more.
Since his time in university, Daniel generated a further interest in sound design and editing for video games and various media projects such as Television and Film. After honing much of his mixing and mastering skills from previous musical work, he now offers such expertise for various projects.
